About the Ordnance QF 18 Pounder – WWI British Field Gun:

The QF 18 Pounder was the standard field gun of British Imperial forces throughout the First World War, serving in all major theaters from the Western Front to Gallipoli and Mesopotamia. Developed through collaboration by multiple armaments companies, the 18 Pounder combined innovations in barrel design, recoil mechanics, and sighting and elevation gear. The result was Britain’s first modern, quick-firing field gun.

Firing a heavy, 3.3 caliber shot, the 18 Pounder could deliver armor-piercing, incendiary, shrapnel, gas, or high explosive shells at a maximum rate of 20 rounds per minute, or a sustained rate of four rounds per minute. The first two variants, the Mk. I and II, featured a pole trail carriage and had a range of almost 7,000 yards. Debuting in 1904, the 18 Pounder remained in use until 1942.
