About the Opel Blitz Omnibus Befehlskraftwagen – WWII German Command Vehicle:

In the 1930s, Germany looked to manufacturers of civilian vehicles to help meet the needs of the coming mobile war. The automobile workshops of the Ludewig Brothers, a small company in Essen, Germany, developed specialized bodies to mount on truck chassis from large manufacturers and, in 1939, the Ludewig Brothers built omnibuses for the German military atop the Opel Blitz 3-ton truck frame. Ludewig’s bus body looked similar to the civilian model, but the windows were simplified, the superstructure was more angular to facilitate faster production, and many seats were removed. These modified buses were practical and adaptable, serving as radio trucks, hospital transports, and command vehicles. As the command variant, the befehlskrafwagen featured radios and room for officers and their staffs. By 1944, Ludewig produced almost 3,000 buses modified for military use, including many befehlskraftwagen for commanders and their teams.
