About the TOW Carrier DPV – Black Ops Anti-Armor Assault Vehicle:
Appearing at first like a dune buggy, the Desert Patrol Vehicle is fast and light, but bristles with firepower. Entering service in the Gulf War in the early 1990s, the DPV provides speed and excellent off-road ability to US military forces operating in the desert. The attack vehicle features rear-wheel drive and a rear-mounted Volkswagen engine that enables rapid acceleration and top speeds around 80mph. Its typical range of about 200 miles can be extended to over 1,000 miles with the use of additional fuel tanks.
Originally developed for use by light infantry, DPVs subsequently were transferred to special forces units. The DPVs are highly adaptable for the particular circumstances encountered by special forces. Along with a three-man crew and radio equipment, DPVs can carry M2 Browning machineguns, M60 machineguns, AT4 recoilless anti-tank weapons, Mk19 grenade launchers, and many other weapons. In addition, early versions experimented with TOW Missile Launchers, providing powerful and effective wire-guided anti-tank defense.
