About the Panzer III Ausf. L – German WWII Medium Tank:
The Panzer III was the archetypal tanker’s tank: it was designed to fight other tanks, to break through enemy lines, and to rapidly exploit the breaches. As Germany’s primary tank for the first half of the war, the Panzer III comprised the bulk of Erwin Rommel’s armored force in North Africa and gave the Desert Fox superiority over Allied armor in 1941 and early 1942.
Entering production in late 1941, the Ausf. L variant arrived in North Africa with thicker armor and increased firepower. The five man crew was protected by 50mm of armor, including 20mm spaced armor added onto the gun mantlet and front hull. Critically, the Ausf. L carried the 50mm long barrel gun, packing a greater punch than its short barrel predecessor. Reliable, designed for mobility and range, and with improved firepower, the Panzer III Ausf. L was well-suited for the Deutsche Afrika’s Korps’ attacks across the desert.
This is a limited edition kit and will not be offered again once the initial run has sold out.
