About the Knighthawk – Sikorsky® MH-60S Seahawk® Helicopter:
The MH-60S is an adaptable and rugged multi-mission helicopter operated by the U.S. Navy. Deployed from ships ranging from aircraft carriers to littoral combat ships, Knighthawks engage in anti-submarine and surface warfare, search and rescue, humanitarian missions, medical evacuation, and much else. Based on the famous Black Hawk®, the MH-60 family features folding blades and a hinged tail to enable storage aboard cramped ships.
Debuting in the early 2000s, the MH-60S features sliding doors on each side of the cabin and the Navy’s first glass cockpit, with monitors relaying integrated avionics and weapons systems. The MH-60S carries door-mounted machine guns, including the M60D, M240D, or GAU-17, and may be equipped with missiles, rockets, and a nose-mounted turret. The helicopter also carries advanced sensors to detect naval mines and submarines from the air. In addition to combat and search and rescue missions in war zones, Knighthawks perform vital humanitarian resupply missions, such as after the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. The Navy’s fleet of almost 300 MH-60S helicopters is intended to remain in service into the 2030s.
