About the Panhard VB2L Mistral – French Light Mobile AA system (2 in 1 Kit):
The Véhicule Blindé Léger (VBL) is a French light armored vehicle designed to provide both mobility and protection. Built by Panhard, one of the first automobile manufacturers, between 1985 and 2010, the VBL and its variants are still in use today. Elongated to serve as a command vehicle, the VB2L variant is equipped with multiple radios and a work station with a map board and folding table. The VBL or VB2L also may carry a remotely-controlled machine gun or a twin-turret with Mistral missile systems, providing infrared homing short range air defense.
The VBL and VB2L served in numerous peacekeeping operations, typically with the French Army but also with Portuguese, Greek, and UN ‘Blue Helmet’ forces. The vehicles saw action in Lebanon, Bosnia, Rwanda, and Kosovo. During the siege of Sarajevo, VBLs were so common that they were nicknamed ‘Sarajevo Taxis.’ They have been used in internal conflicts as well, in states ranging from Rwanda, to Sierra Leone, to Mexico.
