The Luchs (Wildcat) was the first vehicle to emerge from the long-running programme to develop a new Type II tank, and the only one to go into mass production.
It was given the prototype designation of "VK.13.03" and began development in April 1939, with plans to put it into production in August 1942. However, minor changes to the armament meant that production was slow to get underway, and although production finally began in September 1943, it was ordered in May that production of the Lux would cease after the first 100 cars.
As a result, production of the Lux ended when the 100th production model was completed in January 1944, and the 5cm tank gun version was never produced.(From Wikipedia)
