In the vast, featureless expanse of the North African desert, communication was not just important, it was decisive. For the Deutsches Afrikakorps (DAK), the ability to coordinate movement across hundreds of miles of open terrain depended on reliable radio networks and highly mobile headquarters units. Unlike in Europe, where roads, landmarks, and fixed infrastructure anchored operations, the desert seemed to offer little more than sand and sky.
