About the Macchi C.202 Folgore - Italian WWII Fighter Aircraft:

First entering into combat over North Africa in 1941, the Macchi C.202 Folgore was the backbone of the Italian Royal Air Force and held a strong record as a dogfighter especially early in the war. In North Africa the Folgore outperformed its Bf 109 counterparts and proved a worthy advisory for the Hawker Hurricane and P-40 Warhawk. Though the Allied invasion and armistice in 1943 brought an end to the aircraft’s significant use, the Folgore was flown by many Italian aces and earned a legacy as an effective fighter and reconnaissance asset.
