Widely produced in the 1930s, the T-26 helped make the Red Army the largest armored force in the world. By 1941, T-26 tanks outnumbered early German Panzers by a ratio of 4:1 and used swarming tactics to overwhelm German armor. However, come Operation Barbarossa, the meager protection provided by the T-26 was no match for the up-gunned Panzer III and IV. Though the T-26 may have had an early exit in WWII, it helped set a precedent for the mass production of tanks. A strategy that would ultimately lead the Red Army to victory.
