The 10.5cm leFH 18 was designed as a light howitzer to replace the 10.5cm leFH 16 in 1929-1930, based on the 7.5cm FK L/42 prototype developed by Rheinmetall at the same time, and was officially adopted by the Wehrmacht in 1935. The 10.5cm leFH 18M was introduced in 1940, and the 10.5cm leFH 18/40 in 1942-1943. along with the 15cm sFH 18 heavy howitzer, it was the main field howitzer of the divisional artillery and was widely used by both the army and the armed SS throughout the Second World War.
