About the L6/40 - Italian Light Tank:
Originally built in the 1930s with the intention of being exported, Fiat Ansaldo’s L6/40 light tank was ordered by the Italian Army in limited numbers. Missing the initial blitz of Operation Barbarossa, and perhaps trying to avoid being attacked next, Benito Mussolini quickly ordered his Army to join the invasion. Given their small stature and speed, the L6/40 primarily saw use in reconnaissance missions and cavalry divisions. They were bolted and riveted together, often by hand. The turret was manually turned from below, and could be entered through the roof, or a hull side door.
