The Kübelwagen (German: Kübelwagen or Kübelsitzwagen) was a small military vehicle produced in Germany during the Second World War. It was designed by Ferdinand Porsche and others.
The Kübelsitzwagen was a military version of the Volkswagen Type 1, which had been designed by Porsche. The Kübelsitzwagen was designed to have the lowest possible ground clearance, while retaining the light weight and low centre of gravity of the Type 1, in order to improve its ability to negotiate rough terrain.
In German, Wagen is read as "Wagen", but it is written as "Wagen", following the Japanese custom of "Volkswagen". (From Wikipedia)
