About the Kurogane Type 95 Japanese Staff Car:
Developed as a reconnaissance vehicle for the Japanese Imperial Army shortly before the outbreak of World War II, the Type 95 was the world’s first massed produced 4x4 passenger car and served similarly to the Willys Jeep in that it was mainly used for transporting messages and personnel. The vehicle's greatest asset proved to be the air-cooled engine that performed well in the climate of northern China and freed the Japanese from further reliance on unpolluted water, which was difficult to find in the region.
