The M59 155mm cannon or (M1/M2/M2A2) 155mm cannon is a cannon gun used by the United States Army. It is nicknamed the Long Tom. It was designed as a successor to the French GPF 155mm cannon adopted by the U.S. Army during World War I. In World War II, both the Army and Marine Corps operated it for long-range bombardment.
During the Battle of Okinawa, 24 M2 Long Toms (two artillery battalions) were deployed to Kamiyama Island to bombard the main island of Okinawa, and were also used in the Korean War.
In the Ground Self-Defense Force (GSDF), the 155mm Kano gun M2 is owned by the Field Artillery Unit, and has long been the longest-range gun owned by the GSDF. (From Wikipedia)
